holiday apartment decorating ideas link roundup

Whether you plan to celebrate a holiday this winter, or nothing at all, we are here to help you decorate your apartment for the season. We may not be the experts here at The Pointe Brodie Creek, but we did find some great online resources that should inspire you to get festive. Here are some of our favorite holiday apartment decorating ideas from across the Internet. If you want to skip reading the full post below, you can access all the links we found via our Holiday Decorating board on Pinterest.

Trees

It can get tricky figuring out where and how to place a tree (or trees) in your apartment. So, we found a couple of decorating routes you can take.

The first route is to buy a standard tree once you size up your space. The general rule of thumb is to leave about a foot of clearance at the top of your tree. This way, your tree will not hit the ceiling once you add a topper. Slimmer trees work well in smaller spaces like apartments. But, you could even go for a shorter tree to place on your dining or coffee table.

Lowe’s has a helpful guide for choosing the best tree, including how to care for a freshly cut tree. Once you take the tree home, Better Homes & Gardenshow-to guide shows you step-by-step how to decorate it. This gallery of stunning trees from POPSUGAR illustrates all the different tree decorating directions you could go in.

The second route completely foregoes the expected and involves creating a “tree” out of unusual materials. You can use chalkboards, greenery, shelves, or paper to make an alternative decorative tree for your living room.

Wreaths

You can buy a great, ready-made wreath from your favorite store in Little Rock (like At Home, Hobby Lobby, or Target), or get creative and make your own.

If you want to avoid following traditional holiday decorating ideas, Country Living’s gallery of unique DIY wreaths is for you. Who knew you could make a wreath out of so many things? Pick something you have on hand: extra ornaments, tinsel, or even photos will do the trick. Then, think outside the box: hang wreaths over your bed, couch, or bar, not just your front door.

Garlands

If you do nothing else in the way of holiday decorations this year, at least put up a few garlands to celebrate the season. Evergreen garlands (fresh or faux) are the perfect choice, and Apartment Therapy has a ton of ideas to help you get started. If you would rather mix it up, try using berry, tinsel, or beaded garlands to decorate your apartment.

Candles

Candles play a significant role in many religious celebrations, so it is never a surprise to see lots of candles being used in winter holiday decorations. Martha Stewart and Better Homes & Gardens posted examples of gorgeous candle displays you can use to inspire your own apartment decorating this holiday. Just remember to watch them once you light them, as candles can become a fire hazard.

Lights

If candles are not your “thing,” string lights are the perfect way to brighten up your apartment this holiday season. You can even use string lights for decoration year-round!

Apartments.com has some great ideas for using string lights in a variety of ways throughout your apartment. Try playing with different kinds of lights to find ones that match your apartment’s existing style. For a general guide to the do’s and don’ts of holiday lights, check out this article from Apartment Therapy. They made one particularly good point: String lights do utilize electricity, so it is wise not to over decorate. Your utility bill could skyrocket!

Tables

Having people over for a holiday party? No matter the crowd, Southern Living has gorgeous table setting ideas to delight every type of guest. For centerpieces, Martha Stewart’s website is full of classic and elegant designs that could be perfect for your holiday table’s decor.

Other Ideas

Not quite sure what kind of decorations you want to use? We have you covered there, too. Many websites we found offered too many holiday apartment decorating ideas to mention here. Head over to Rent.com, HelloGiggles.com, and ApartmentTherapy.com for even more inspiration.

Please remember to follow fire codes and the Resident Handbook when decorating your apartment this holiday season. For example, decorating your patio or balcony excessively and hanging items from your apartment’s interior sprinkler heads is against our community policies.
