4 Red Flags to Watch Out for When Apartment Hunting

As you start shopping around Little Rock for the perfect apartment, you will come across various apartment communities that may or may not meet your needs. You can use a variety of factors to rank them and choose favorites, but you can’t forget to also watch for red flags and cut communities from your list accordingly.

Everyone knows to look out for common red flags like bad reviews, questionable construction, or safety hazards, but we have a few others you should add to your list!

From a terrible website to an illegal operation, there are four more red flags we recommend you learn to recognize.

#1: They Have a Terrible Website

Finding and renting an apartment in Little Rock can easily be done digitally these days, so there is no reason for any property’s website to be stuck in the past. It should be an immediate red flag to you if you visit a website that’s seriously terrible!

Maybe the website isn’t secure, or it’s difficult to navigate.

Perhaps the unit availability isn’t up to date, or rent prices are missing (or wrong).

Possibly the photos are old and pixelated, or only show renderings even though the property has been open for months.

Website issues speak to a property that doesn’t prioritize user experience. It means they do not have the time or the resources to offer you what you need and deserve.

Here on The Pointe Brodie Creek website, you can browse our availability by move-in date, number of bedrooms, floor level, lease term, or price. You can read our reviews, watch virtual tours, check out our neighborhood, and get lots of helpful tips on our blog.

We want to make the apartment hunting process easier for you, not harder!

#2: They Stink at Social Media

Have you tried looking up apartment communities on social media? Checking out their Facebook or Instagram profile should give you a good idea of what resident life is like and help you picture yourself living there.

Can’t even find a community on social media? That’s a red flag.

They rarely post updates? That’s a red flag.

Their feed is full of lackluster content like grainy photos or bad graphics? That’s a red flag.

Living at an apartment community should feel like a community, especially if meeting new people and knowing your neighbors is important to you. You should feel engaged, intrigued, and involved, not isolated!

For example, you can find The Pointe Brodie Creek on Facebook, InstagramPinterest, TikTokTwitter, and YouTube. Follow the hashtag #brodiecreekliving to see what our staff and our residents are posting!

#3: They Offer Outrageous Specials

Is an apartment community offering you an outrageous deal that seems too good to be true? It probably is!

If you see a move-in special that gets you in the door for free, waives lots of fees, or heavily discounts your rent, that means the community is desperate for leases. There is always a good reason why their occupancy is low.

You need to take that at face value, accept it as a red flag, and look elsewhere!

Here at The Pointe Brodie Creek, our luxury community offers so many built-in, money-saving opportunities that we do need to throw specials in your face for you to get great deals.

You can save money just by taking advantage of all our amazing community amenities that are completely free to use. Plus, our utility package alone saves you well over $200 a month.

We even offer a rewards program, which allows you to earn points you can convert to cash by following us on social media, participating in polls, leaving us a review, referring your friends, and so much more. It even offers you local deals and discounts

#4: They Break Fair Housing Laws

Under federal fair housing laws, discrimination of any kind is illegal in the housing industry.

This means any community representative you meet is legally not allowed to discriminate against you based on age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. Everyone that walks through the door should be treated equally and offered the same service.

Discrimination can manifest itself in many ways, so sometimes it’s difficult to recognize an interaction as a red flag while apartment hunting

It could be as simple as a leasing agent assuming your race, assigning you a sex, or discussing religion without your direction or consent. They are not allowed to identify you or refer to you as anything other than a person before you identify or refer to yourself first.

Community representatives are also not allowed to disclose or discuss details about their resident demographics, such as telling you the average age of the people living there. Unless you’re looking specifically for student housing or senior living, all should be welcome!

Discrimination can even present itself in a seemingly positive way, where you may be offered a special deal, extra bonus, or added service that others are not offered.

It may sound nice, and you may want to take them up on the offer, but it should alarm you that they are acting illegally and treating you differently!

Is your head spinning now? Let us make it simple for you: when you compare The Pointe Brodie Creek to most luxury apartments in town, there is no comparison. You won’t be triggered by red flags here!
